Identified by prehistoric paintings showing similarities, cows evolved from aurochs with the last aurochs killed by poacher in 1627. The early cow served to provide meat, milk and labor to owners. Eventually draft purposes were mostly replaced by horses and later on machinery, so now are bred for meat or dairy.

A quadruped mammal of the family Bovine includes cows, steers, bulls, and oxen with domestication purported by some to 10,000 years ago, although disputed. Remnants of domestic cows date to 6500 B.C. in Turkey and Near East. Authorities believe domestication to follow sheep, goats, pigs, and dogs. Cattle pictures are shown by breeders.
