Actually, there is no telling, when exactly cattle keeping originated. Remains of livestock dating back to about 6500 B.C. have been discovered in the Middle East. There are also grounds to believe, that livestock keeping traditions appeared much earlier. What's more interesting, is the fact, that throughout these millenniums, cattle has been providing the same three basic purposes: milk, meat and labor.
