The Charollais sheep was produced in the 1800s in France by crossbreeding of a local Landrace breed with a British Leicester longwool species. The sheep features an elongated body with a broad and muscular loin. The head is bare and pink/fawn in color. Charollais are highly prolific and user friendly, and they are very valuable from an economic point of view. Since 1994, these sheep are used in Canada for the production of terminal sires.
